The Poppleton Hub
Elaine Howard has been busy co-ordinating team of cutters and sewers, and stayed busy throughout lockdown cycling around her local villages delivering supplies and collecting completed sets of scrubs and face coverings. Elaine was inspired to help by her daughter…
Our daughter is a senior registrar in emergency medicine at the MRI Manchester and juggling her now full time job with a 2 year old toddler and a husband working full time from home.
Her stories of lack of PPE are the same as ours here, and she really appreciates all the scrubs etc they are receiving from their local Scrub Hub. We really appreciate all the wonderful team at York Scrubs.
I am a keen sewer and embroiderer and recently retired science teacher.

I have known Elaine for many years through our ladies walking group. I use my ancient sewing machine for mending and curtains so was happy to cut out scrubs and leave the sewing to the professionals. This project helped me through the beginning of lockdown by giving me a sense of contributing when we all felt so impotent and unsure how it would all turn out.
I was proud to have been a small part of it.

My name is Shirley Roberts, I am a retired york university research scientist. My friend Elaine told me about YorkScrubs when people were making laundry bags. I volunteered with a few friends to make bunting. More recently I have been making face coverings and the face covering laundry bags with a little help from two friends, Pat and Judy. It has been a pleasure to have been a small part of such a wonderful inspiring community effort!
