For each cracker you will need:
Two pieces of fabric (one outer and one lining) measuring * 1/2” by 8 1/2” (21.5cm x 21.5cm) and another pair measuring 8 1/2” by 7 1/2” (21.5cm x 19cm)
2 pieces of 2” (5cm) cotton webbing measuring 7 1/2” (19cm)
2 pieces of 2” (5cm) cotton webbing measuring 6 1/2” (16.5cm)
Narrow velcro (1cm wide) or a popper or two
Ribbon (optional extra)
Step 1:
Apply the webbing to both lining pieces leaving a 1/2” (approx 1.2cm) seam allowance at the bottom of your fabric piece and at each side
Space the webbing 3” (7.5cm) apart. This should leave you with 1” (2.5cm) at the top of the fabric
Pin and sew along the side (shorter) edge of the webbing
Step 2:
Apply ribbons (optional) making sure you leave the bottom seam allowance free
Once completed the ribbon will sit over the stiffened part of the cracker
Sew in place
Step 3:
Sew the outer fabric and lining right sides together
Only sew round three sides leaving the top side open
Snip each corner
Step 4 (Version 1):
Turn inside out and fold the top edge inside to neaten. Press or pin to secure
Add either the hook or the soft part of the Velcro and sew to the inside (the lining side) of the larger piece of fabric. This will close the opening at the same time
Sew the corresponding piece of Velcro to the small piece making sure the Velcro is sewn to the outer fabric
Step 4 (Version 2):
Turn inside out and fold the top edge inside to neaten. Press or pin to secure
Sew the seam closed and add a popper or two instead
Step 5:
Roll to make a tube and hand sew
Tie with ribbons
