Scrubs

During the height of the covid-19 pandemic there was a huge global demand for medical scrubs. Supplies of scrubs were quickly exhausted, and clinicians were working on the frontline without the vital personal protective equipment they needed.

York Scrubs was formed in response to a local shortage of medical scrubs. We worked closely with the hospital to ensure that we made the sizes in the quantities that were needed and we used suitable fabric.

Many of our volunteer seamstresses reported that they did not have space to cut the fabric, so we established a team of experienced seamstresses who cut the fabric. The pre-cut bundles helped us with consistency of the completed scrubs and allowed us to adapt sizing according to the needs of the hospital. These bundles were distributed to the seamstresses thanks to our team of volunteer drivers.

It was a joy to receive the completed scrubs and many came with personalised labels, custom pockets, embroidery and beautiful notes and illustrations.

I am writing to express my personal thanks to York Scrubs for your support in making and donating Scrubs and other items to the Trust, to help us ensure we are well equipped to support our staff and care for our patients in the coming days and weeks.

As the Chief Medical Officer has stated, NHS services are likely to come under intense pressure as the coronavirus spreads and we need to ensure that we are well prepared as the number of infections peak. Your kind donation will help us to do this.

It is an extraordinary time we are living in and we are facing perhaps the greatest public health threat in a generation. I am incredibly proud of the way staff across all our hospitals and the community are responding and rising to these challenges.

Thank you again for your support.

Scrub caps are amazing. Thank you. The staff love love love them.’

Staff are fighting over them.

They will keep the respiratory droplets from coughing patients off our hair. Meaning we don't have to wash our hair after every single shift.

So they are a massive help to us feeling like we are protecting ourselves as much as possible and reducing the spread to our families
